Schlap is a software-dependent compressor with a distinctive, colorful and aggressive sound. It takes its inspiration from hardware compressors of the past.
The compressor uses software-dependent attack and release influenced by older hardware, making compression more distinctive and dynamic.
RMS detection means Schlap detects the average volume of the signal, causing sudden short peaks to not be compressed so they can attack hard and sound powerful.
There is also a slight compression delay when RMS is detected, which allows the initial, early transients to pass through uncompressed so they retain their power.
